Red has made major announcements in NAB 2008, with three much awaited products that attracted much hype in the run-up to the show.
The Red Epic is a 5K HD camera that of course replaces the Red One as the company’s new flagship and has the following main features:
- Full-frame S35mm Mysterium X sensor.
- Shooting at up to 100 fps.
- Dual-link HD SDI.
- HDMI, USB 2.0 and FireWire 800 connectivity.
- WiFi control.
- 2-XLR audio inputs.
- About 3kg of aluminium body.
- Compatible with most Red One accessories.
According to Gizmodo, if you have already purchased a Red One at $17,500, you get full credit towards a Red Epic when it becomes available in 2009. Read the rest of this entry »

Sony announced at PMA 2008 the new full HD PMW-EX3, the direct descendant of the PMW-EX1. If you check out its form factor and that of the new XL H1S and XL H1A Canons, you will immediately find plenty of similarities and will immediately understand how much Canon has influenced the prosumer segment.
However, Sony made its new handheld as mean as possible with a lot of neat features:
- Native 1920×1080p resolution.
- 24p availability for cinema-like feel.
- 3 x 1/2 inch CMOS sensors.
- XDCAM HD EX recording.
- Interchangeable lens.
