Interview of Peter Chou of HTC at Engadget

Posted by Dimitrios Matsoulis on December 12, 2007

Engadget has taken a very interesting interview of Peter Chou the CEO of HTC. So far, HTC is the best ambassador of Windows Mobile in the mobile telephone market but is also preparing for two years now to adopt the use of Google’s Android for some of its models. The mobile telephone market is definitely hotting up with Symbian and Windows Mobile already established players and Google Android arriving in 2008. The interview also covers lots of issues of the mobile telephone market, like for example the four different bands of 3G currently used worldwide and how difficult it is to make a worldphone. A very interesting read and highly recommended!

Do you have to charge your mobile devices every night to get you through the following day? You are not alone… But stop worrying, Toshiba is coming to the rescue with its new SCiB generation of batteries. Take a seat to check out the main features to be offered:

  • High charge current of up to 50A and attainment of 90% of full charge within 5 minutes!
  • Charge/discharge 3000 times and you only lose 10% of initial capacity! In other words, if you charge daily, you get stable high performance for 10 years!
  • High safety against rupture or combustion thanks to high thermal stability.
  • Suitability for high power applications, i.e. our future electric cars!
  • Good performance at low temperatures of up to -30°C, very important for future mobile applications.

The bad news is that Toshiba is currently concentrating on industrial grade products. Come on Toshiba, you disappointed us with those SED screens that seem to never come to the market, if you get those SCiB batteries to our mobile devices soon we will definitely forgive you…

New TBN network linking southeast and central/western Europe

Posted by Dimitrios Matsoulis on December 12, 2007

The new fiberoptic TBN network (TransBalkan Network) of Oteglobe is now ready and links the Balkans to Central and Western Europe. It runs from Greece all the way to Frankfurt in Germany via Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria. Oteglobe is a subsidiary of OTE, the Greek state telecom company. Apart from the obvious crucial support of OTE’s investments in Bulgaria and Romania, TBN is an alternative 100% land based route to Oteglobe’s GWEN network linking Greece to Western Europe via Italy. The combination of TBN and GWEN forms a complete backbone network of Southeast Europe open to internet and telecom customers that require a link between Western Europe, the Balkans and the Middle East. For more information you can refer directly to the Oteglobe site or use Google translate to convert the article here.
